KAI Sekimagoroku Damascus Petty Knife 150mm Stainless Clad Composite Material

Damascus
Like a quiet blade pattern, yet also like unwavering tree rings.
The magnificent Damascus pattern, reminiscent of a Japanese sword, is the crystallization of the technique of folding 32 different layers together.
The handle employs a rugged construction that uses no rivets.
This is the premium "Sekimagoroku" series, in which the pride of the swordsmith lives on.

What is Sekimagoroku (Seki-Mago-Roku)
The origin of Seki-Kaji (Seki forging) dates back to the Kamakura period, when swordsmiths who had moved from Kyushu to what is now Seki City, Gifu Prefecture (Mino) began making swords in this region blessed with high-quality clay, water and charcoal. Many famous swords were born here, and the master craftsman "Seki no Magoroku" (Seki-no-Magoroku) devised a distinctive sword-making method, bringing to the world the finest beautiful, highly artistic blades with outstanding sharpness. As the times changed from the Edo to the Meiji period, many of Seki's master swordsmiths shifted to manufacturing household cutlery. The conviction behind Seki swords, praised as blades that "do not break, do not bend, and cut well," has been faithfully passed down to modern cutlery making. The "Sekimagoroku" series name comes from the 27th-generation Kanemoto, master swordsmith Magoroku Kaneko, conveying that craftsman's sharpness to the present day while making the most of the master's skills.

★A premium Japanese-design line that meets even professional needs!! The blade surface is covered with a beautiful Damascus pattern reminiscent of a Japanese sword, and the handle has an inverted triangular shape that fits the hand just right. Sharpness, comfort in use and design: functional beauty pursued to the fullest.
★Meticulous "authentic edge" finishing. Newly developed "thinning" and "edge-setting" techniques deliver a keen cutting edge. The integrated bolster: by welding the stainless steel bolster to the blade, moisture and rust are completely shut out.
★A "laminated reinforced wood handle" with an excellent fit. The handle material is natural wood given a special treatment. It retains the natural texture of the wood while offering high strength and resistance to water and humidity.
*This knife can be used by both right-handed and left-handed users. Left-handed users can use it as well.
*Not suitable for use in a dishwasher.

■Handle
A laminated reinforced wood handle with an excellent fit. The inverted triangular shape and the rivet-free shaft construction provide superior strength and water resistance while also pursuing attractive design.
■Bolster
The bolster joining the blade and the handle is welded and polished, creating a welded bolster where moisture and dirt do not easily accumulate.
■Blade
The "Damascus pattern" is created by folding 32 layers of different stainless steels together. In addition to excellent sharpness, it offers lasting edge retention and easy sharpening.
■
Edge-setting
The edge can be set with an extremely fine grinding wheel, achieving a delicate cutting performance. Since drops in hardness caused by heat are also avoided, the edge can be set while maintaining high hardness.

[Caring for your knife] After use, apply a neutral detergent to a sponge, remove any dirt, rinse, wipe off the moisture thoroughly with a dry cloth, and store in a place with low humidity.

[Resharpening your knife] No matter how fine a blade is, it will gradually deteriorate unless it is properly maintained at the right time. When a fully ripe tomato gets crushed instead of sliced, or chicken slips and cannot be cut neatly, it is a sign that resharpening is needed.
So that you can use your KAI knife with confidence for many years, we also offer a resharpening service (fee-based) performed by KAI professionals; please contact our store for details. (Products from other manufacturers cannot be accepted.)
