KAI Sekimagoroku Damascus Petty Knife 120mm Stainless Clad Composite Material

Damascus
Like a quiet blade pattern, yet also like unwavering tree rings.
The magnificent Damascus pattern, reminiscent of a Japanese sword, is the crystallization of the technique of folding 32 different layers together.
The handle employs a tough construction that uses no rivets.
This is the premium series of "Sekimagoroku," in which the pride of the swordsmith lives on.

What is Sekimagoroku (Seki-Mago-Roku)
The origin of Seki-Kaji (Seki forging) dates back to the Kamakura period, when swordsmiths who moved from Kyushu to what is now Seki City, Gifu Prefecture (Mino) began making swords in this region blessed with high-quality clay, water and charcoal. Many famous swords were born here, and the master craftsman "Seki-no-Magoroku" devised a distinctive method of sword making, producing the finest blades of outstanding sharpness, great beauty and high artistry. As the times changed from the Edo to the Meiji era, many of Seki's swordsmiths shifted to manufacturing household cutlery. The conviction behind the praise that Seki swords "do not break, do not bend, and cut well" has been firmly handed down to modern cutlery making as well. The "Sekimagoroku" series name comes from the 27th-generation Kanemoto, swordsmith Mr. Magoroku Kaneko, and it conveys that sharpness to the present day while making full use of the master's skills.

★A premium Japan-design line that meets even professional needs!! A beautiful Damascus pattern reminiscent of a Japanese sword spreads across the blade surface, while the handle has an inverted triangular shape that fits the hand just right. Sharpness, comfort in use and design — functional beauty has been pursued in every respect.
★Meticulously specified "authentic edge" finishing. Newly developed "hollow grinding" and "edge setting" techniques have been adopted to achieve keen sharpness. The integrated ferrule: by welding the stainless steel ferrule to the blade, moisture and rust are completely shut out.
★A "laminated reinforced wood handle" with an excellent fit. The handle material is natural wood given a special treatment. It retains the natural texture of wood while offering high strength and resistance to water and humidity.
*This knife can be used by both right-handed and left-handed users. Left-handed users can use it as well.
*Not suitable for dishwashers or drying machines.

■Handle
A laminated reinforced wood handle with an excellent fit. Thanks to the inverted triangular shape and a shaft construction that uses no rivets, it offers outstanding strength and water resistance while also pursuing good design.
■Ferrule
The ferrule joining the blade and the handle is welded and polished, creating a welded ferrule where moisture and dirt do not easily accumulate.
■Blade
The "Damascus pattern" is created by folding different stainless steels into 32 layers. In addition to excellent sharpness, it delivers long-lasting edge retention and easy sharpening.
■
Edge setting
The edge can be set using an extremely fine grinding wheel, achieving delicate sharpness. Since a drop in hardness caused by heat is also avoided, the edge can be set while maintaining high hardness.

[Caring for your knife] After use, apply a neutral detergent to a sponge, remove the dirt, rinse, wipe off moisture thoroughly with a dry cloth, and store in a place with low humidity.

[About re-sharpening your knife] No matter how good a blade is, it will gradually deteriorate unless proper maintenance is carried out at the right time. When a fully ripe tomato gets crushed instead of sliced, or when chicken slips and does not cut well, it is a sign that re-sharpening is needed.
So that you can use your KAI knife with confidence for many years, a re-sharpening service (for a fee) by KAI professionals is also available — please contact our store. (Products from other manufacturers cannot be accepted.)
